Review: Sweet Heart Sweet Light by Spiritualized

Sweet Heart Sweet Light by SpiritualizedForgive me for not fully understanding space rock, but is it just me, or is Spiritualized’s latest a bit confused? Sweet Heart Sweet Light is by-the-books Spiritualized: it’s sprawling, it’s layered, and it’s supposedly fascinating. But I’m getting a poppier vibe from the album: there’s an extra bounce I never noticed in previous albums. I don’t think the album knows what it wants to be. It’s got quite a split personality, down to the hour-long run time. “Little Girl” and “Freedom” are spotlights, and as for the rest? You might have to prepare yourself. I probably got bored. Or I probably just don’t get it. | 3/5
