“Call Me Maybe” by Carly Rae Jepsen | Yes, I know. But you cannot avoid this song. It’s still not stuck in my head (sorry Noreen) but it is stuck in everyone’s – how do you explain the multitude of chart places, memes and low-value YouTube covers? (I’m looking at you, Georgina Wilson.) But during my regular record store trips (to look, unsuccessfully, for Haley Reinhart’s CD) I realized that, despite the song’s popularity, Carly Rae Jepsen’s EP, Curiosity, is still not in record stores. Yes, it’s an EP. Less tracks, less price. But it hasn’t stopped other foreign EPs from being sold here. (I bought Keane’s Night Train here. They’re definitely not as ubiquitous as Carly Rae.) So how can you legally buy, here in Manila, one of the world’s biggest songs at the moment? By buying a shit acoustic cover? That exists, by the way. Typical of Filipinos.
