Review: Gossamer by Passion Pit

Gossamer by Passion PitIt’d be safe to say that Passion Pit hasn’t changed the formula much on their second album Gossamer – there’s the familiar mix of bouncy electronics and Michael Angelakos’ squishy vocals. But let’s give them credit: tracks like “Constant Conversations” surprisingly dive into 90s R&B territory, while “Carried Away” and “On My Way” perfect the group’s trademark it’s-all-gonna-be-fine pop. Gossamer suffers, however, from being a bit samey, maybe a bit too happy, especially in the album’s second half – although the grim subject of “Where We Belong”, about a suicide attempt, defies that – but for what it is, Passion Pit’s sophomore release does what it sets out to do. | 3/5
