Review: ¡Uno! by Green Day

¡Uno! by Green DayGreen Day made the smart decision of not following up American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown with a third sprawling sociopolitical commetary of a concept album. They made the smarter decision of going back to how they did things in their early years: ¡Uno! is a burst of fresh air from the trio, a return to the past that doesn’t make them sound out of place. Sure, it’s not the most consistent album (and you can say that after the last two records) but it’s quite a fun romp, like a jam session, where the results almost always hit the spot, notably on “Kill The DJ” and “Sweet 16”. It’s hard to review this album without considering the two that will follow – ¡Dos! is out in November, while ¡Tré! drops next year – but this sounds like a good start. | 4/5
