“You didn’t have to cut me off.”

“Somebody That I Used To Know” by Gotye featuring Kimbra | I told myself I’ll write about the Grammys today, but there is nothing to write about this year. I’m posting this so-2011 Gotye song because, well, this won two awards, which means two awards for Kimbra, and that’s good news. But fun. won Best New Artist, which is fucking ridiculous. Mumford & Sons won Album of the Year for Babel; while it’s a good album, the win is really mostly a representation of how popular they are. And that is my issue with the Grammys most years. Sometimes they can buck trends and give us good winners (remember when Esperanza Spalding beat Justin Bieber for Best New Artist, or when Arcade Fire’s The Suburbs surprisingly won Album of the Year?) but most of the time they just follow who’s popular. But ruining that theory is the fact that Carly Rae Jepsen did not win a Grammy. So I don’t know. I am riled up for no reason. Did I wake up on the wrong side of the bed? (Can’t be.) Am I just peeved that the Mumfords are doing better than infinitely better Laura Marling? (Likely.) Or is it because I just don’t fucking like fun. and the way they fucking spell their name?
