“You’ve gotta cross that line.”

“Out Of Time” by Stone Temple Pilots | Well, this is interesting. I haven’t really followed the Stone Temple Pilots beyond a belated appraisal of their biggest hits (and how they used to play constantly on WLS-FM’s Sunday programming) but I have followed Linkin Park, thanks in part to my sister’s love for them. But I think I know enough to know what Scott Weiland gave to STP, and what Chester Bennington is giving to LP. And now Chester’s replaced Scott as the band’s vocalist, after the latter’s controversial firing. And now, this, the band’s first new song in a while, which is a bit discombobulating because, well, they sound different, and Chester’s whine (this is not an insult) atop STP’s booming sound takes a bit getting used to. But hey, this song isn’t bad. The band may not have Chester forever – this may be, for all we know, a last hurrah – but this isn’t an attempt to stay relevant. This is, well, something that looks worth it in the long run.
