Instrumentals we love, part six: Bringing spunk to the violin (and the violin to the masses)

“Crystallize” by Lindsey Stirling | When my girlfriend mentioned Lindsey Stirling to me – she was randomly going through the iTunes Store and thought her album cover was cute – I had a bit of a flashback. Of course, Lindsey’s a pretty big thing on YouTube, a self-dubbed “hip-hop violinist” with the goods to match. I encountered her when I was still writing about TV for a living; I saw her on America’s Got Talent (but don’t we all?) and wrote about her three-track EP two and a half years ago. Glad to hear she’s still doing things (and getting sixty million views on YouTube while she’s at it). Maybe the dubstep thing in “Crystallized”, released a year ago, is more of an undertone than anything, but I love how she’s still bringing spunk to the violin, and making sure a lot of people see it.
