“After dawn there will be sunshine, and all the dust will go.”

“Tea & Toast” by Lucy Spraggan | Now, I haven’t seen a lot of The X Factor, so Lucy Spraggan’s back story – well, mostly of how she made it past Judges’ Houses but quit after three weeks because she was so ill she thought she shouldn’t get a free pass – is all alien to me. I wouldn’t have thought she was (mostly) a product of a singing competition until I began reading up on her. She’s really another discovery on Lush 99.5 – this single was released in 2012, but her album, Join the Club, just hit shelves last October – and I heard this song twice and I thought, well, it’s a good story song: quirky, bouncy, but poignant, right along the lines of what Rupert Holmes would do. And then I listened to it again, and read the lyrics, and realized that you could call this the aural equivalent of the opening scenes of Up! All the feels. [NB]
