“I don’t want to face the world in tears.”

“Of The Night” by Bastille | So. Bastille. Jeany suggested I write about them, saying she’s gotten obsessed over them lately. She saw them in New York a couple of weeks back, and got kinda creeped out by how similar the British band sounds live to their recorded stuff. And yes, Bastille isn’t a new band. They’ve been around for a year or so, and despite the fact that they’re British, I’ve resisted writing about them because, well, I feel incredibly meh about them. What’s it with this tranche of arena-aiming rock-with-electronica bands that fail to inspire me? The 1975’s a bit catchy, but they don’t do anything. AWOLNATION’s “Sail” is admittedly compelling, but same thing. Imagine Dragons are big – radio guy Sean Ross described them as what Linkin Park would sound if they got big in the dubstep era, which makes sense, and I got into Linkin Park myself, but not Imagine Dragons, because they are, well, incredibly meh. I guess it’s the by-numbers sound, I don’t know. Maybe the right one will come along soon. [NB] (Have things I should hear? Drop me a line here.)
