“Freedom could kill us, but we’d rather go on.”

“Despair, Hangover and Ecstasy” by the Dø | I call this song fat. I call this song incredibly fat. There’s something really attractive about that bam-bam-bam nature of this song’s hook, that escalation, that harshness, that tenderness, that something. I don’t really know. Anyway, the Dø. I’ve only heard of them in passing: the French/Finnish duo has been around for roughly a decade, when musicians Olivia Merilahti and Dan Levy met while working on a film; the album this song is off of, Shake Shook Shaken, is their third, and was released in France last year, with a wider release today. Again, this song’s incredibly fat nature. Bam. Bam. Bam. It’s all hyperactive and yet tender, and it’s just alluring. [NB]
