「とってもだいすき ドラえもん。」

“Doraemon no Uta” by Kumiko Ōsugi | Inspired by the cover to this month’s issue of Monocle, and triggered by a random question from Rainy last week, here I am, writing about the theme song to Doraemon. The original one, that is: since the anime premiered in 1979 there have been six versions of this song, which I’ll be tweeting out throughout today. Anyway, the original. I chose this because this has been on the longest – it was only retired in 1992 – which means this song accompanied the episodes that GMA aired. (The network still airs Doraemon occasionally, but it now forgoes the titles completely. As for this song, it’s no longer in use. They’re using this. For now.) The whimsy of the very 1970s sound still manages to sound right today, in 2015. Then again, we all still wonder if humanity in 2112 can really make a cat robot whose ears can somehow be eaten by actual mice. [NB]
