“I don’t even know if I believe.”

“Believe” by Mumford & Sons | Much has been made of Mumford & Sons going electric for their next record, Wilder Mind, which’ll be out this May. Now I’ve heard “Believe”, the first single off it, I am not so sure if there’s much a deal. Yes, they’ve gone electric, but it’s like the band’s jumped from one cliché to another. This is not to slate them, though: all I’m saying is, change of amplification aside, there really isn’t much to be excited about, at least judging from this. “Believe” is your usual wide-screen delight from the Mumford, only with a less jangle and more effects. And oddly, the result is a track that doesn’t quite get warm enough. And I listened to it twice during its radio debut a few hours ago. (Annie Mac played it twice.) Maybe it’ll settle down in a few weeks, but right now, it’s just not warm enough. Or it’s the early morning. [NB]
