“지금 이 곳에서 너랑 나랑 둘만 남을래 이렇게.”

“Piano Man” by Mamamoo | Anybody who’s reading this blog would know that I am slowly having some K-pop preferences of my own. It’s only taken three years and a girlfriend who’s into the genre. I almost bought Akdong Musician’s debut album in Singapore. I use the hook in Hi Suhyun’s “I’m Different” as a virtual musical rimshot. (That’s a subunit featuring Lee Hi and Akdong Musician’s Lee Suhyun, both winners of the same talent show. Yikes, Niko.) I tried, in vain, to find the Saturday Night Live Korea sketch that used SoYou and JunggiGo’s “Some” – I watched that sketch on holiday, and identified the song with Rainy’s help, obviously. But it says something when a song suddenly pops into your head while you’re doing the groceries – not a Korean grocery; the one near my place does not even play Korean songs – and you kind of sing it while looking for Worcestershire sauce in the wrong aisle. And I told Rainy that what I like about Mamamoo is that they’re not about the pretty faces but the pretty voices. Indeed, if you dig deep enough and stuff… [NB]
