“Dadalhin lang pala ng hangin ang pangarap ko.”

Great Philippine Song Hits“Dadalhin” by Regine Velasquez | There was a stretch in the early to mid-2000s when my parents bought CDs of Regine Velasquez. Her covers album, Retro, was one of our first albums on CD, and the buying streak ended with her 2001 record, Reigne, which contained this song – arguably her biggest hit. Regine’s been singing since the 1980s – the story of her dad making her sing while submerged in a drum full of water endures – and, while she’s gone from straightforward pop to sexier pop to mass-appeal ballads like this one, it’s her soaring soprano that’s gotten her places. Regine is the quintessential Filipino biritera, the female singer every aspiring female singer looks up to. She has to be on the list. And, yes, it has to be this song, one for broken hearts everywhere. [NB]
