“Ang pag-ibig sa iyo’y lagi mong kasama.”

Great Philippine Song Hits“Lumayo Ka Man” by Rodel Naval | Of course it wasn’t only the ladies who sang these love songs that populated our airwaves. The men definitely got in on the act, from Basil Valdez and Rey Valera, to Ric Segreto and Ariel Rivera, to Ogie Alcasid and Janno Gibbs, to, well, Daniel Padilla and James Reid. Rodel Naval was one of those names, almost forgotten two decades after his death, but during his heyday he was quite up there. “Lumayo Ka Man”, released in 1990, was his biggest hit; a big comeback, if any, after a humdrum acting phase in the 1970s. Five years later he would be dead, of what would turn out to be AIDS. A tragic figure, perhaps, but one who lives on – you likely don’t know the name, but the songs, you’ve heard, or are unable to escape, perhaps.
