“Go around in circles like you do.”

“Circles” by Vacilando | In the midst of all the shenanigans this blog got up to last month, an email got lost in the post. (Typical.) John – he who emailed me about Catherine Feeny’s latest last time – dropped me a line to talk about his own music, and it’s interestingly atmospheric. Vacilando is the band’s name, and John himself leads the charge: this Portland project very much sounds like Nashville, if it had lots and lots of Portland’s rain. (I know Seattle is rainier. Bear with me.) Listening to their debut record While They Were Dancing, I get this dense soundscape that’s informed both by good old Americana and the more experimental side of Low. It’s a good listen, and I mean it: while it’s just six songs long, it’s actually quite rewarding. (I’m highlighting “Circles”, my favorite from the collection.) It’s now available on their Bandcamp page. Sorry I missed this for a month. [NB] (Have things I should hear? Drop me a line here.)
