“S.O.B.” by Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats | Well, yes, this song isn’t new. A few months old, actually. But in the past three weeks this song was suddenly everywhere. My first exposure to this was actually an explanation from the Current, talking about why they’re playing the song despite the swearing that happens to be the whole point of the song. And then it was everywhere – this rowdy, bluesy, catchy-as-hell track on not exactly kicking the bottle. And then you don’t mind the swearing, not because we’ve been desensitized or anything, but because it just makes sense in this track, the single from the Denver band’s self-titled debut record, released a month ago. (Nathaniel’s been around for a while, though: he’s released four records under different monickers before this.) And then you hear the former XFM play a radio edit of this track. Son-of-a-RAAAH! I hope that’s a “drunk edit” or something, because that would be meta. But it’s distracting. Radio edits. Why? That son of a… [NB]
