“Will I get that sweet taste of fresas con crema?”

“Elena” by Dan Stuart with Twin Tones | Another one from John over at Fluff and Gravy, this. Whenever he sends stuff over I’m sure I always learn something – his label is filled with veterans, but the sort I obviously would not hear of otherwise. Dan Stuart is one such case: if you’re in Los Angeles during the 1980s you might have heard of his work with the Americana duo Green on Red, which continued until he popped out of the music scene in the 1990s. He would later resurface in Mexico, writing as Marlowe Billings; he would return to music in 2012, embracing both identities. “Elena” is off his upcoming record, Marlowe’s Revenge, which goes live on 6 February: recorded with Mexican band Twin Tones, there’s a ramshackle sense of polish on the record, a mix of his past and present, in songs both in English and Spanish, leading to something quite evocative. [NB] (Have things I should hear? Drop me a line here.)
