Review: ArrangingTime by Pete Yorn

ArrangingTime by Pete YornIt’s been six years since Pete Yorn released a record, so the arrival of ArrangingTime, his seventh, feels like a refresher, a triumphant return and a comfortable settling down all at the same time. Pete’s always done tunes with a particular brightness to them: no matter what the mood, no matter what the tempo, there’s always a brightness that just shines through. While a change in record labels leads to a bit of a variation in the template, that quality doesn’t quite die down – and you are left with tunes like “Lost Weekend” being oddly happy despite an arguably downbeat. ArrangingTime feels deliberate, in that sense. The songs are somehow crafted in a way that feels packed even if it can be sparse, especially in the middle. [NB]4/5
