“…but you gave in to someone else who sees through your affectionate rage.”

“Delroy Lindo” by Forebear | Sometimes I get songs on my inbox that lead me to a Google search that’s not just about who the artist is. In the case of this new track from Los Angeles-based band Forebear, it’s the guy who lends his name to the title: Delroy Lindo, the actor, whose name I have come across several times when I still wrote about television. So that’s why he’s familiar. But back to Forebear: the band – led by frontman Scott Goldbaum – is composed of accomplished musicians, working either with their own projects or in collaborations with the likes of Feist, Kimbra and Kamasi Washington. “Delroy Lindo” (the song, note) has this tinkling, sweeping feel: it’s not entirely horizontal, partly still on its toes, ready to pounce. (Also a fan of the strings – Molly Rogers’ viola is so integral to the band’s sound. This track is off their upcoming record Good God, which drops on 26 August. [NB] (Have things I should hear? Drop me a line here.)
