Great Philippine Song Hits“Tuloy Pa Rin” by Neocolours | Last year we devoted the entire month of July to the best Filipino music, across genres and ages, to mark (and then some) Linggo ng Musikang Pilipino, which happens on the last week of the month. This year, well, we’re at it again: 21 songs, one for every weekday this month, celebrating Filipino music’s most iconic. And we begin with a song that’s apparently returned to some’s consciousness because of a McDonald’s ad – which I have not seen, at least until the day I wrote this – from a vocal group that gained popularity in the late 1980s. Neocolours were behind some hits that, while well remembered, have somewhat faded to obscurity (save for those “old music days” on the radio) in recent days. Perhaps it’s how vocal group like them somewhat lost favor in the early 1990s. But they’re still around – they’ve got a new album out, actually – and their members have gone on to produce a plethora of local artists. And then there’s Jimmy Antiporda, who has the honor of being the guy responsible, in one way or another, for the theme music for TV Patrol24 Oras and Aksyon. And you thought television networks here do not share. [NB]
