“Anuman ang iyong ginagawa sa iyong kapatid ay siya ring ginagawa mo sa akin.”

Great Philippine Song Hits“Banal Na Aso, Santong Kabayo” by Yano | This classic is another one of those songs that were common in the 90s but seem a bit of an aberration now. I mean, there really were a lot of songs that explicitly poked at the social norms of the time. Now, they’re still around, but the last alternative revolution back in the mid-2000s focused on the then-unknown concept of feels and the song’s singability, so to speak. Today, make a song talking about who we are and you’re not likely to get quite big. Yano has always bucked the trend, both by maintaining a playful demeanor while still being biting. “Banal Na Aso, Santong Kabayo” would get noticed because of that creepy laugh thing, but then you’re lured into a critique of how superficial people can be with their faith, and how they use it to prove their supremacy. Or I’m saying that. Anyway, the tradition, of course, continues with Dong Abay and his many projects. All is well. [NB]
