“Ang tulad mo ay minsan lang sa buhay ko.”

Great Philippine Song Hits“Pangako” by Vina Morales | Yes, yes, I know Rey Valera originally composed this song for Geraldine. And yes, I should be posting his version instead. But, as we’ve been discussing songs that got their iconic status partly through television, why not the theme song to perhaps one of the biggest dramas on Philippine television? It felt like everybody was watching this. The finale was a legitimate national concern, even if we all knew Yna and Angelo would go past all those hurdles thrown at them from the beginning – class, third parties, you get the idea. (I don’t know if the same was the case for last year’s remake, with Daniel Padilla doing his best Jericho Rosales, and Kathryn Bernardo doing her best Kristine Hermosa. I certainly felt a remake was not needed.) I heard this song on the radio a few months ago and had a good sing in the car, because it certainly brought me back to a time when we really shared pop culture moments, rather than showed them off. But then again, I’m the wrong age for this. [NB]
