“All I want to do is care free living.”

“Care Free Living” by Call in Artillery | Once again, I find myself first commenting about an American band’s name. The name Call in Artillery sounds like, well, what it sounds like: a group of kids daydreaming of breaking free from these chains of… whatever. Not really, in this case. Call in Artillery is the project of St. Louis musician Chris Schwan, and while there’s a hint of rowdiness in his songs, it’s a bit more laid back, a bit more thoughtful, and frankly, just the right amount of interesting. His new EP, This is Temporary, just dropped – get it on Bandcamp – and it’s a good mix of the surprisingly ethereal (like “Blackout”) and, well, tracks like “Fuck You”, on the harder (and quicker) side, as the name suggests. Focusing on “Care Free Living”, though: it’s that sort of song you can’t help but hum along to. It’s an interesting mix, one that clearly has had a lot of nurturing done. [NB] (Have things I should hear? Drop me a line here.)
