Review: Give A Glimpse of What Yer Not by Dinosaur Jr.

Give A Glimpse Of What Yer Not by Dinosaur Jr.It seems Dinosaur Jr. has found its mojo after the band’s three members reunited, and that streak continues with their fourth post-reunion record, Give A Glimpse of What Yer Not. Comfortable without being complacent, it’s your expected mix of scuzzy guitar, soaring yelps and a sense that some sort of controlled chaos is going to break out. It’s interesting how the band has riffed on the same sounds – and, perhaps, the same themes – without really sounding stale: the album admittedly threatened to do so halfway through but somehow recovered without even trying. Then you realize that Dinosaur Jr. won’t be starting a revolution. There’s nothing groundbreaking, of course – but it’s quite a good record. Not a perfect record, yes, but gems like “Goin Down” and “Mirror” are flashbombs that go off just when you need it. [NB]4/5
