“Baka ikaw rin at ako.”

“Pagdating Ng Panahon” by Aiza Seguerra | And now, another one of those “senti” songs from years past. Aiza Seguerra began, of course, as a contestant on Eat Bulaga!‘s Little Miss Philippines segment, and her popularity scored her a slot on the noontime show – and somewhat got that show out of its early doldrums and into its dominant position today. A lot has happened since: a music career, a relatively low-key gender transition (he now identifies as a transgender man, after first coming out as lesbian; I’m not sure how to refer to him when he identified as a female, to be honest, so I’m glad to be guided on this), marriage and, these days, a position in government. But perhaps when you think of Aiza, you think of “Pagdating Ng Panahon”, which she released in 2001. Many picked up the guitar and tried to learn this song – I remember being surrounded by people who could do this song when I was in high school. (I never had the urge to learn guitar.) And I can see why it endures: a simple song with simple sentiments simply laid out. Everybody gets that, and that makes for a popular song. No matter what people think of him these days, this endures. [NB]
