“…inilubog pa niya ang sarili sa putik.”

Great Philippine Song Hits“Laki Sa Layaw” by Mike Hanopol | While we try not to repeat artists for this feature (to the point that we have not included songs we’ve previously written about outside of this thing), this is, arguably, Mike Hanopol’s third appearance. He was, of course, with Juan Dela Cruz Band, and was the producer and songwriter (but not a performer) for Hagibis. He also did solo work, of course, with “Laki sa Layaw” being his most important song: an illustration of the cool subculture of the 1970s, with a dash of “lost his way” peppered throughout – there ought to be a moral, after all. (Also, he did bring the term “jeproks” to wider familiarity.) Mike’s oeuvre is pretty diverse, from rock classics to some really irresistible pop (again, try pulling yourself away from a Hagibis marathon session) to guitar-led instrumentals cutting across genres and geographical considerations. We may not pay that much attention now, but, again, his contributions cannot be denied. [NB]
